A very special thank you to the New Jersey Devils and the American Special Hockey Association for inviting us to celebrate International World Disabilities Day on December 3, 2019. Some of our families flew to New Jersey and participated in two fun filled, action packed days. The kids got to be a part of a very special event that the New Jersey Devils organization and ASHA put together to celebrate the special day. The kids skated on the New Jersey Devils practice rink and then during the New Jersey Devils vs VGK game during intermission. We had lunch with our great friends at ASHA and new friends from other special hockey organizations. We skated outdoors at Lasker rink in Central Park, got to tour NHL Corporate Headquarters and got a private tour of Madison Square Garden. We also met many players and other great people. We had a wonderful time and will never forget this experience. Thank you so much for this opportunity!

A gigantic thank you to Deryk and Melissa Engelland and everyone at the Engelland Vegas Born Heroes Foundation and VGK and Zappos who put this amazing event together! Ken and I had the most amazing time. We were so fortunate to be included as one of the 20 selected heroes this season. There were so many deserving people there with amazing stories. We read each story as it was played on the screen and then it was told again as each hero was called up to the front. Each story was very touching. If you would like to read the stories, they are all posted on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/engosheroes?lang=en I highly suggest reading each story.
The evening was packed full of fun and excitement and included: amazing people, great food and drink, a psychic, our buddy Chance, old school circus games, caricature drawings, a raffle, lots of great prizes, very generous donations, and several animals you definitely don't have the opportunity to get up close and personal to often! Deryk and Melissa are the sweetest couple and we cannot thank them enough for what they have done for SOI, but also for what they do for others in the community. This is a very special foundation that they started. We can tell you all that they are both very genuine, down to earth people. Melissa's speech was very touching and everyone in the room knew that she was sincere when she said that they were moved by each of the hero's stories. We had the best time and can't wait to see who the recipients are next year!
Thank you again Engelland Vegas Born Heroes Foundation/VGK and Zappos!
